We have all heard the saying laughter is the best medicine, well that is proving to be true!

Studies have shown that laughter boosts immune function by raising levels of infection fighting T-cells and disease fighting proteins called Gamma-interferon and B-cells which produce disease destroying antibodies.

Laughter also triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers!

When you laugh you are giving your diaphragm and abdominal, respiratory, facial, leg and back muscles a workout! That is why sometimes after a long bout of laughing, you feel exhausted. It is like a total body workout.

There are so many reasons why you should find ways to bring more laughter into your life.

  • You activate and relieve your stress response
  • It helps relax muscles, relieves tension
  • By taking in oxygen rich air when laughing you stimulate your organs
  • Increases endorphins which are natural pain killers
  • Improves your immune system
  • Improves your mood

So how can you add more laughter into your life?

  • Hang around those people who make you laugh
  • Keep a funny photo, comic strip or story by your desk
  • Watch a funny movie or TV show
  • Learn to laugh at yourself

If all else fails, fake a laugh. Go ahead and try it. I guarantee at first you may feel ridiculous but that feeling alone will lighten your mood and the next thing you know, your laughing!
